Keep in mind, eating fast food once in a while isn’t going to cause you a great deal of health concerns. However,
fast food is high in fat, calories, cholesterol, and sodium. So eating too much of it over a long period of time, contributes to health problems such as obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
There are several healthy food choices that are quick, delicious, and inexpensive, and can also be eaten on the go.
Try to balance fast food with other nutritious food choices throughout the day and make the healthiest choices whenever possible.
Here are some valuable tips to help make healthy food choices easier for the entire family:
- Choose foods that are baked or broiled rather than fried. For example: Grilled Chicken breast sandwich instead of a Crispy Chicken sandwich.
- Skip the mayo -- Instead, ask for ketchup, mustard or barbeque sauce.
- By ordering regular sized value meals instead of "super-sizing" you can save yourself a couple hundred calories.
- Try avoiding cream based soups. Instead, go for broth based soups.
- Choose low-fat salad dressing when ordering salads.
- Instead of ordering French fries, order soup, a salad, or a baked potato.
- Try ordering diet sodas, 100% fruit juices, skim or low-fat milk, or just plain water instead of regular juices and sodas.
- Share an entrée with a friend and each of you get a side salad.
Making healthy food choices a part of your daily nutritional plan will help you live a longer, more quality life!
